The challenge
The transformer needed additional cooling capacity for summer peaks without changing the tank footprint. The site is exposed to coastal wind and salt, and the operator required access for fan replacement without taking the transformer out of service.
Project route
Approach
- Review of oil flow, heat load and ambient design conditions.
- Free-standing oil-air cooler with C5-M corrosion protection.
- Fan and cooler segmentation for maintenance with the unit energised.
- Noise review against the nearest residential receptor.
- Spare fan and gasket package included in the order.
Result
- Additional cooling capacity within the existing substation boundary.
- Maintenance access independent of the transformer tank.
- Corrosion class matched to the coastal environment.
